Explore the rugged beauty of Big Bend Ranch State Park, a hidden gem in the heart of West Texas. Known for its solitude, stunning landscapes, and rich history, this park offers an unparalleled outdoor experience. From hiking and biking trails to ancient Indigenous artwork and the historic Sauceda Ranger Station, there’s something for every adventurer.

You can find a full recap of this Texas state park here.

Check out the YouTube video to understand what it’s like driving around Big Bend Ranch State Park, and enjoy the solitude. It’s a rugged park that requires patience to get in and out, but if you enjoy the openness and getting your tires dirty, then this is a great state park.

It is recommended that you have a high-clearance vehicle for this park, but if you’re just staying on the main park road, you’ll be ok. Just make sure you have good tires, because those rocks will be really bumpy.

The map does a great job of describing the types of roads throughout the park, so if you’re able, get out and explore this vast wilderness. This video is a very small portion of the park over three days, but anywhere you’re in this park will offer some spectacular views.

If you don’t feel like getting into the park, you’ll see two places that are a must-visit outside of the park on the beautiful River Road; the Hoodoos Trail and the Closed Canyon Trail.

They are part of the park, so make sure you grab your day pass before visiting either of these places, and have plenty of sun protection. Not a ton of shade here in these parts.
